The L3S Research Center (ÌÇÐÄÔ­´´) welcomes applications for the following position starting at the earliest possible date: Scientific Research Associate (Postdoc) in the Field of Agentic AI Systems for Scientific Workflows (salary scale 13 TV-L, 100%)

The position is limited to 36 months. Place of work is Hannover.

The L3S Research Center is an internationally renowned research center for digital information, data, and knowledge systems. It conducts interdisciplinary cutting-edge research in the fields of Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Web Science, Data Science, and Digital Libraries. L3S works closely with national and international partners from academia and industry.

Your position at a glance 

The position is situated in the context of a research project on the development, evaluation, and integration of agentic AI systems to support scientific workflows. The objective is to develop data-driven, adaptive, and semi-autonomous AI agents that make research processes more efficient, transparent, and reproducible. 

In connection with this position, you can expect in particular the following tasks:

  • Conceptualization, development, and implementation of agentic AI systems
  • Development and integration of Large Language Models (LLMs) into scientific work processes
  • Design and evaluation of multi-agent architectures
  • Development of data-driven models to support scientific decision-making processes
  • Conceptualization and execution of experiments for systematic evaluation
  • Analysis and processing of complex, heterogeneous data sources
  • Publication of research results in international scientific journals and at conferences
  • Participation in third-party funding proposals and research collaborations

Who are we looking for?

A prerequisite for employment is a completed academic university degree (Master’s or equivalent) in Computer Science, Data Science, Artificial Intelligence, Mathematics, or a related field. A doctorate is desirable but not mandatory.

In addition, you bring the following qualifications:

  • Very good knowledge of Machine Learning and/or Deep Learning
  • Solid programming skills (e.g., Python)
  • Experience in working with Large Language Models and/or agent systems
  • Experience with experimental evaluation and scientific methodology
  • Ability to work independently in a scientific manner
  • Very good English language skills, both written and spoken

Additionally advantageous are:

  • Experience with multi-agent systems or distributed architectures
  • Knowledge of MLOps, reproducibility, and scientific software development
  • Experience with open science practices
  • Experience in interdisciplinary collaboration
