The Institute of Design and Construction at the Faculty of Architecture and Landscape welcomes applications for the following position starting 1st of October 2026: Research Assistant in the field of AI for Building Renovation (salary scale 13 TV-L, 100 %)
The position is limited to 3 years and is located at the Sustainable Building Systems (NGS) department.
Your position at a glance
You will work in the project "CO2 reduction and accelerated renovation through AI-supported strategies and renewable energies in the residential building stock" (CORE-KI, ). The aim of the project is an AI-supported prioritization of measures in renovation roadmaps with given financial budgets to achieve maximum savings in CO2 emissions. You will prepare the real data of building stocks in cooperation with housing associations in Hanover and develop the AI methodology of the project. Close cooperation with the Institute for Solar Energy Research Hameln (ISFH), which is carrying out simulation of systems in the project, provides synthetic training data. Furthermore, teaching in the field of building renovation, energy systems and AI and the preparation of the application for research funds are among the tasks of the position.
Who are we looking for?
The prerequisite for employment is a scientific university degree (diploma, master's degree or equivalent) and relevant proven experience in the field of building planning or renovation, preferably with reference to energy systems. Experience in working with data-driven models, AI and machine learning is also desirable. Fluency in German and English is required.
