The Institute of Quantum Optics welcomes applications for the following position starting at the earliest possible date: Research Staff (PhD Position) in Theoretical Quantum and Strong-Field Physics (salary scale 13 TV-L, 75 %)

The fixed-term position is for a duration of 36 months. An extension until completion of the PhD is possible. 

Your role 

  • You will develop novel theoretical methods for investigating ultrafast electron dynamics in strong laser fields using both classical and quantum light sources.
  • You will contribute to simulations of quantum-mechanical electron dynamics on attosecond timescales.
  • You will bridge experiment and theory through the analysis and interpretation of experimental data using modern computational methods.

Who are we looking for?

The successful candidate must hold a university science degree (Master's or equivalent) in Physics, Quantum Science, Photonics, or a closely related field.

In addition, we are looking for a candidate with the following:

  • excellent knowledge of quantum mechanics
  • knowledge of theoretical physics, mathematical methods, and scientific programming (e.g. Python, C/C++, Julia, or Fortran)
  • knowledge of quantum optics, strong-field physics, or attosecond science is advantageous
